Whisky jugs
The jug for whisky is born because there was the usage to add a little bit of water (cold but not iced) to the whisky, “spring water” for english people, due to savour every properties of this famous distillate. Since 1840 the most imprtant distilleries gave to the owners of inns, pubs, restaurants and refreshment bars the jugs that promoted their products. So, the advertising jug was born and it was used to promote strong drinks, distillates, cigarettes and many other products bar related.
The whisky jugs has been made in different materials as: earthenwar, glass, ceramic, tin plate, aluminium, porcelain and plastics, but the most of them are made in ceramic.
Collecting advertising jugs is a relatively recent hobby, it was born about in the 70-80 years and it had a speed growth until to get collectors in every parts of the world. In Australia is born the forst membership of collectors. The most wanted jugs are scottish ones, obviously, as the Scotland is the undiscussed home of the whisky.
Finding jugs is the biggest difficulty of this king of collection; you can find them by the second-hand dealers, local street markets, antique markets and fortunately, now, in internet, where some collectors have already a web site to trade, sell and buy jugs or, above all, get infos and news about this fascinating world of advertising jugs.
