Wrappers
The use of the wrappers dates back to the beginning of 40s. Their function is not only advertising, as we can think seeing the variety and the originality of the drawings, but they also protect the fruit during the transport, to avoid the contact with the eventual gone bad fruit. Obviously the use of the wrappers requires more costs, so will be favoured expensive and quality fruit.
A wrapper, talking about its structure and iconography, is a tissue-paper square sheet. The drawing of the advertising message is on the center and in a round area, as, wrapping the orange with the wrapper, this round area is seen by the customer. But it’s also important the curiosity aroused by a warm and light colors “dressed” orange in the human eye. It is different from the other and it attracts on itself the attention.
Collecting wrappers it’s not easys. The light consistence of the matter allows to get intact wrappers with difficulty. They tears easily, they creases irreparably. In these cases you can use a cold iron or you can put them under weight for a period of time. The best way to preserve them is an album or a copy-book with plastic movable sheets in a dry ambient.
The gallery contains 41 wrappers. Every page will contain 2 pictures maximum, in total 20 pages. Some wrappers have been cut during the scansion, as too big. The cut part, however, is the white border or without pictures.
